Diamond Engagement Ring Everything
you need to know
The traditional choice of stone for a engagement
ring is a diamond. Diamond engagement rings
are
popular because of their hardness and durability, their colour range
and their unrivalled ability to sparkle. Their
low reactivity to chemicals also makes them a great choice for a stone
you will wear everyday.
There is so much information around about diamonds
it can be hard to know where to start when educating yourself
about what you would like for your diamond engagement ring. No doubt
you have heard about “The four C’s”:
CUT:
This refers to the proportions of how the stone has been cut. A well
cut stone will reflect light around the inside
of the stone, from facet to facet, dispensing through the top of the
stone and giving it “sparkle”. A stone that
has been cut too deep or too shallow will reflect the light through the
incorrect part of the stone resulting in a
lack of shine.
COLOUR:
The colour of a diamond is determined by the amount of light reflected
back to the eye. The colour of a diamond is
graded from the D (the best - colourless) to Z (the worst - light
yellow)
CLARITY:
This refer to the imperfections within and on the surface of the stone.
Diamonds are graded from Flawless,
Internally Flawless, Very, Very Slight Inclusion, all the way down to
Slightly Included to Imperfect. Flawless
diamonds are much more expensive and it is not usually necessary to
select an internally flawless diamond The
difference between the categories can be explained to you further by
your jeweller (link to my site)
CARAT:
Carat refers to the size of the diamond, and this will largely be
determined by your budget. Stones are measured in
carats and one carat equals .20 grams.

A diamonds value is determined by the combination
of these four elements: colour, clarity, cut and carat.
Choosing the perfect Diamond
Engagement ring will have a lot to do with these 4
choices.
